World’s First Gigabit LTE Network Is Here
Australian carrier Telstra has turned on the world’s first gigabyte LTE network. The network offers Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne transfer speeds of up to 1Gbps, several times faster than existing networks. Speed tests demonstrated 930Mbps downloads, enough to transfer a 3GB movie in three minutes. To take advantage of this, devices will need a compatible modem. Qualcomm is supplying the first to market and their upcoming Snapdragon 835 processor could be capable of harnessing the new gigabit network. Sources state, 15 carriers within 11 countries are in trial for the service.
